On account of the growing complexity of global supply chains, the logistics and transportation industry grapples with a fast-paced, competitive landscape, where logistic providers have to stay creative in order to keep their edge over their competition. Two key trends shaping the industry today are the push for supply chain agility and the adoption of automation to address global labor shortages. Agility is essential for logistics companies to stay ahead. As technology evolves and customer expectations increase, supply chains must be able to respond quickly to new demands. One of the primary ways companies are achieving this is through self-managed onboarding and enhanced change management practices. By allowing businesses to directly control their processes, self-managed services reduce reliance on third-party providers. For example, when a logistics company lands a significant new client, a managed service would require them to submit an onboarding ticket, which could sit in a queue for days. In contrast, a self-managed approach lets the company onboard the client immediately, reducing delays and building a better client relationship from the onset. This capability to swiftly integrate new clients is another guarantee against potential revenue losses. Labor shortages continue to be a pressing issue for the logistics and transportation industry, particularly in warehousing and transportation. This shortage drives up costs and affects the ability to meet delivery timelines, forcing companies to explore automation as a solution. In warehousing, for instance, machines now play an active role in picking products and initiating the packing process, streamlining operations and allowing fewer employees to handle higher volumes. Transportation is also seeing significant advances in automation, with Europe leading the way in automated trucking solutions. Some companies are even testing semi-autonomous trucking units, where a human-driven truck leads and a driverless truck follows, mimicking its driving patterns.
