In 2024, France’s eyewear industry is set to generate $7.52 billion in revenue and the market is more than ready to further expand, if we go by the projected annual growth rate of 2.31% from 2024 to 2029. The Spectacle Lenses segment, accounting for $4.50 billion, stands as the largest contributor to this revenue, highlighting the critical role of vision correction products in the market. On a per capita basis, the French market shows robust consumer engagement, with an average revenue of $116.00 per person and an expected market volume of 265.7 million pieces by 2029. This translates to an average of 3.8 pieces per person in 2024, which signals a high demand for eyewear among French consumers. One notable trend in France is the dominance of non-luxury eyewear, expected to account for 84% of sales by 2024. This indicates a broad market appeal and accessibility, making stylish and functional eyewear available to a wider audience. The country is the world’s sixth-largest exporter of spectacle frames and the eighth-largest supplier to Hong Kong. With 170 companies and 1,300 brands employing 10,500 people, the French optical industry generates a turnover of €3.14 billion. SMEs and micro-enterprises dominate the sector, which creates a certain level of agility in catering to special orders and tailor-made products. The Jura region, a historic hub for spectacle manufacturing since the 18th century, remains a critical player. Today, around 60% of spectacles produced in France are exported, with 2,000 new frame designs created annually. This region blends traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation. This is particularly accurate for the high-end and designer segments. French spectacle makers supply over 70 international luxury brands. At events like the Hong Kong Optical Fair, French firms showcase their latest collections to an enthusiastic reception.
