Germans are fond of outdoor experiences and camping, which is a niche that the home and lifestyle industry in Stuttgart serves through the community-building CMT fair. Short for Caravan, Motor, Touristik, this is one of Germany’s longest-running travel exhibitions, going strong since 1968. The event has lasted this long thanks to its exceptional programme and generous portfolio that captures every aspect of the outdoor lifestyle. The 2024 edition drew over 234,000 visitors, who came to see cruisers, bicycles, towing vehicles, convertibles, offroaders, e-bikes, cars, pedelecs, segways, motorhomes, caravans, caravan equipment, and tents. Exhibitors reported engaging conversations, successful sales, and increased bookings.
The Philippines, this year’s partner country, leveraged the fair to promote its tourism under the motto ‘Love the culture, love the nature, love the adventure.’ Daks Gonzales, Director of Central Europe at the Philippine Tourist Office, expressed optimism about welcoming more German tourists following the event. The Swabian Alb region, CMT's gourmet partner, also enjoyed heightened visibility and interest. Mike Münzing, Managing Director of the Swabian Alb Tourism Association, noted unprecedented response and awareness, showcasing the region's culinary and travel appeal.
Of course, there are many different types of lifestyles out there. Golf enthusiasts found a haven at the Golf and Wellness Travel section of CMT, dubbed Europe's finest golf fair. Catering to both professionals and beginners, the fair offered product and travel presentations, hands-on activities, and interactive experiences. Otto Leibfritz, President of the Baden-Württemberg Golf Association, remarked on golf's increased popularity during the pandemic as a physically engaging, health-promoting activity. Efforts to recruit younger players were evident, with programs tailored for kids and themes of environmental protection and biodiversity taking center stage. Embracing nature has also become more popular. Forest bathing is currently gaining popularity for its stress-relieving benefits. The concept is an immersive nature experience engaging all senses.
