Paris Region, a hub of culture and commerce, is also home to a thriving automotive sector that serves as one of the region's economic pillars. Beyond its role as an economic force to be reckoned with, the automotive industry in the Paris Region fuels innovation, exports and R&D, creating a ripple effect across various sectors. As this industry charts its course into the future, renewal and sustainability stand at the forefront, relying on innovation and cross-sector collaboration. It’s an optimistic forecast for an industry that’s otherwise challenged by the after-quakes of the pandemic and the supply shortage of automotive semiconductors. In 2018, the automotive sector in the Paris Region boasted 1600 dedicated locations, employing a workforce of 73,200 individuals. Remarkably, 70% of these employees were engaged by core automotive sector players and parts suppliers. The automotive sector isn't just a contributor to the region's economy; it's deeply embedded in its social fabric. The Paris Region is home to one in five French automotive industry jobs and accounts for 17% of total industrial employment in the area. Over the past decade, this sector has witnessed a series of transformations: a shrinking workforce, strategic geographic shifts, and a collective focus on shaping the vehicle of the future. Industry players are proactively reimagining the future of mobility, forging new partnerships, and fostering technology-driven alliances. These collaborations are not confined to traditional automotive sector players but extend to diverse sectors previously unrelated to the industry's core business. Beyond the assembly lines and manufacturing hubs, the automotive sector in the Paris Region also supports a vast ecosystem of suppliers and technical design offices. These include first-tier suppliers responsible for essential components like glass, tires, and plastics, as well as second-tier suppliers providing mechanical and electronic sub-assemblies. This network of suppliers comprises over 900 facilities.
