Given that Rotterdam has the largest port in the whole of Europe, it’s no surprise to learn the city boasts a healthy boating industry whether we’re talking about sailing for leisure, building boats or racing. In fact, one of the most anticipated racing events is the E1 electric powerboat race. With over 100,000 visitors expected per day, the event promises to deliver thrilling racing action and innovative displays that will captivate audiences of all ages. E1, a pioneering force in electric powerboat racing, will debut multiple RaceBirds on the water, unveiling eye-catching new liveries and showcasing gender-equal split pilot teams. This marks a significant milestone for E1 as it provides a sneak peek into the format of its inaugural championship season set to launch in early 2024. Alejandro Agag, E1 co-founder and chairman, expressed his excitement about returning to Rotterdam and launching the RaceBirds on the water. He emphasized the event’s significance as a preview of E1’s race weekend format and welcomed fans to stay tuned for further developments in the electric powerboat racing world. The showcase will feature two exciting event styles: the Daikin Cup and the ComeOn Challenge. In the Daikin Cup, pilots will engage in time trials around E1’s Infinity Course near Rotterdam's Erasmus Bridge, competing for the fastest lap times and the title of champion team. Meanwhile, the ComeOn Challenge will introduce a thrilling relay event where pilots swap places halfway through the race, aiming to be the first team to cross the finish line. Partner pairings will rotate each day of the showcase, ensuring dynamic and competitive racing action throughout the weekend. One of the standout features of the event is the gender-equal split among pilot teams. Each team will consist of one female and one male pilot, promoting inclusivity and diversity on the racecourse.
